I've Been on Both Sides of the Camera
When I was a creative director, I'd ask photographers for a 2/3 body shot with negative space on the right so we could run text alongside the subject. I'd ask for a frame where we could put a headline. What I got back was almost never that.
So when I moved to photography full-time, I brought that frustration with me and turned it into a process. Every session starts with the same question I needed answered back then: "Where are your images going to be used?"
